Gilla Bruja
Norhymenoreason

In the days before the Gilla Bruja came to my town, every night the sky turned blood red and reports of cattle mutilations came in by the dozen.

Then, out by the old barn, near Millers Curve, I saw the beaten up van come around the bend, leaving black smoke in the sky. Then I saw them unloading the amps and the blood stained instruments.

That night, it started...I could feel the tremors through the ground, calling us to the barn. And we went, seeing such things along the way that I cannot bring myself to remember.

The next morning, the Gilla Bruja were gone, and the town was empty, taking the non-believers with them, leaving only the faint sound of their final screams.

Still to this day, I can feel the tremors pulling me back to that barn...

Metal Hammer Review - March 2002 Issue

Gilla Bruja - Tooth and Nail

Gilla Bruja's rather overexcited biography assures us that they named themselves after some sort of Mexican Death Cult, but infinitely more scary is the fact that they hail from darkest Bedfordshire (an angry chupacabra or the centre of Luton on a Friday night - which would you prefer?).

'Tooth and Nail' stiches together a host of influences, drawing particularly heavily on grindcore and the industrial brutality of bands like Godflesh, all underpinned by an unstoppable satanic groove that twists sheer density into whole new shapes. What makes this album truly amazing is that everything about it, the music, the production, the packaging, is top notch, which is damned impressive for a debut album released on a small UK indie label.

Gilla Bruja lie somewhere between Medulla Nocte, GGFH and the depths of Mike Patton's worst psychoses, and if you haven't already run off screaming, you will buy this album.
